Registration is now open for the June 14-Aug. 5 summer session and both Grossmont and Cuyamaca colleges are adding resources to help students earn units to get a jump start on the fall semester.

Classes will continue to be offered mostly online for the summer with an eye toward an anticipated partial return to campus for the fall. In addition to the eight-week class sessions, two six-week sessions running June 14-July 22 and June 28-Aug. 5 are also being offered.

A limited number of summer classes will meet on campus, particularly career technical education and laboratory classes that are difficult to deliver remotely. Those classes include chemistry labs, cardiovascular technology, culinary arts, English as a Second Language, exercise science and wellness, orthopedic technology and theatre arts at Grossmont College. At Cuyamaca College, in-person classes include those in exercise science and ornamental horticulture.

Both colleges are offering a wide assortment of courses, from anthropology to Spanish. Classes remain an affordable $46 per unit and more classes than ever are offering Zero Textbook Costs and Open Educational Resources (ZTEC/OER) classes that do not require textbook purchases. These courses are identified in the class schedules.

The campuses are expanding other resources to help students succeed. At Grossmont College, the library, including the technology mall with its open-use computers, is reopening May 3 to students with reservations, which can be made online at grossmont.libcal.com.

At Cuyamaca College, starting today, students can connect live via a phone hotline -- (619) 660-4340 -- from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays in English, and various days and hours in Spanish, Arabic and Aramaic to help students. Help via Zoom is available 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Mondays; 8-5 p.m. Tuesdays-Thursdays; and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Fridays. Zoom links and specific hours for non-English hotline help are posted at www.cuyamaca.edu/help-center/general.php

Class schedules, as well as enrollment and registration information for both colleges, are available at www.gcccd.edu/now .
