Grossmont College was named No. 73 – out of more than 900 community colleges in the country – for the number of associate degrees awarded to Latinx students during the 2019-2020 academic year in Hispanic Outlook on Education Magazine’s 2021 Top 100 issue.

Grossmont College was also recognized as No. 64 in the country for Latinx student enrollment during the same period.

“Grossmont College is a proud Hispanic-Serving Institution dedicated to getting it right, serving our students, and making an impact,” said Grossmont College President Denise Whisenhunt. “That these rankings come after we held an inspirational series of music and dance performances, workshops, and panel discussions both in-person and online to celebrate and honor another Latinx Heritage Month makes this recognition even sweeter.”

Hispanic Outlook in Education Magazine annually produces the national ranking that analyzes data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data Set collected by the National Center for Education Statistics, which is part of the U.S. Department of Education. Latinx students at Grossmont College comprise 36.1% of those enrolled at the San Diego County campus, up from 33.7% in the fall of 2018.

Some 848 of the 2,616 students earning degrees during the 2019-2020 are Latinx, ranking Grossmont College No. 3 in San Diego County.

As a Hispanic-Serving Institution, Grossmont College is “Transforming Lives Through Education” and has served the diverse educational needs of the region’s East County since 1961. Grossmont College sends more transfer students to San Diego State University than any community college in the country. With more than 150 certificate and associate-degree programs, Grossmont College provides workforce training, career development and transferable college-level coursework to its more than 16,000 students.
