EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

EMERGENCY INFORMATION LINE: 1-800-550-3922

Studies show that during an incident, information is as critically important to people as food or water. Not only can accurate information mean the difference between life and death, it can provide reassurance that response and recovery are truly underway.

In short, those who become and remain informed, make a plan, and practice that plan, are better prepared and more resilient in the face of an emergency.

It is the responsibility of every faculty and staff member to read, understand and familiarize themselves with the Emergency Management Plan and evacuation routes.  You can find AP 3505 here.

In an emergency

If an emergency occurs on the Grossmont or Cuyamaca college campuses, numerous methods will be used to communicate information.  Check out the Emergency Notifications page for all the latest. If you haven't yet already done so, make sure your phone numbers are up to day in Workday to receive emergency messaging via cell phone, landline phone, and e-mail.

Call the campus Emergency Information Line 1-800-550-3922 for general information and instructions for faculty, staff and students regarding campus operations, business or classes when GCCCD's Emergency Operations and Preparedness teams have been activated.

 When calling 9-1-1

  1. Give your name.
  2. Give your extension number.
  3. Give building name and room number or other specific location.
  4. Describe the condition clearly and accurately.
  5. DON'T HANG UP! Let the person you are talking to end the conversation; other information may be needed.

Be prepared: what you can do on campus

  • Know your building’s floor plan and exit routes.
  • Participate in fire drills and safety training programs.
  • Know the location of, and go directly to, an evacuation point.
  • Locate the nearest fire extinguisher and fire alarm.
  • Keep a flashlight and emergency radio nearby.
  • Prepare yourself and your family at home so they know what to do if you are involved in an emergency, including where to go and how to cope until you’re able to get home.
  • Become a Building Marshal! Join our program by emailing the Public Safety Compliance Specialist!
