FILENAME CONVENTIONS

When uploading files to Canvas or attaching files to a Canvas Discussion Board post, use the following filename conventions:

  • Make sure all files have the appropriate file extension (e.g. .doc). Don't leave the extension off.
  • Use only letters, numbers, hyphens (-), and underscores (_) in filenames (plus only one period before the file extension e.g. my-file.doc)
  • Do NOT use spaces, commas, pound signs (#), , apostrophes ('), quotes ("), question marks, equal signs, parentheses, asterisk (*) or any other special characters. For example, Homework#1.doc and homework 1.doc are not the best filenames. Use homework-1.doc instead.
  • File names, including the file extension, should be as short as possible.
